Welcome to the next chapter in our 10-year-old story...
Web-based programs launching soon!
We are introducing live webinars and other digital resources for students and teachers from mid-2019
Established in 2007, Masters Academy is the leading provider of debating and public speaking services to schools in NSW. Our problem is that we’re not reaching enough of the state’s students on a regular basis. The occasional “flying squad” north, south or west of Sydney is simply not enough to share our best practice debating and public speaking methodology throughout all of NSW and eventually across Australia.
We are on a long-held mission to improve the quality, consistency and availability of best practice communication skills education across the state and we see this as the ideal vehicle to help us achieve all three.
Our first online program will be a 6-Week "Introduction to Debating" course for primary and high school audiences. Students will participate in a half-hour live webinar each week, presented by one of our most experienced coaches. They will complete an additional half-hour of learning each week via pre-recorded videos (e.g. demo debates) and quizzes.
This program will be parent-paid at a total cost of $120 per student. If they wish, NSW participants will be able to redeem their $100 Creative Kids voucher with this program; bringing their total investment to just $20!
We are inviting interested debating coordinators and teachers to help provide feedback and make this opportunity available to their school communities by sharing our promotional materials as they become available. Please complete the form below to express your interest in learning more and keeping in touch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are you keeping your in-person coaching services?
Yes, everything else stays the same. We are primarily targeting schools we have been unable to serve in-person due to geographic distance. Schools we attend in-person are also able to "add-on" our online programs to augment their existing programs and further enhance student outcomes.
Who pays for this?
Our online programs are parent-paid, via a secure online booking platform. There is no additional cost to schools. Teachers and debating coordinators are being asked to help promote the opportunity through their own channels e.g. school newsletter, website and P&C.
Can I buy one membership and use this with my students during lunchtime?
Not yet. The live webinar component (which comprises half of this program) will be held after school hours on set days of the week. Students will need to login from home on their own devices. We are working on a separate kit for teachers in remote areas to download and conduct our programs themselves (especially those who have completed our NESA-endorsed PD courses). Please contact us if you would be interested in learning more about this.
Will the students be able to ask questions?
Yes. Students will be able to ask text-based questions while the presenter is speaking or "upvote" questions from other students that they would like answered. Time permitting, the presenter will answer as many of these questions as they can during the live webinar and follow up afterwards by email with any additional answers.
Do you offer online PD for teachers?
Yes. We are also launching online NESA-endorsed PD courses (4 accredited hours each) on debating and public speaking pedagogy. Teachers will get to login wherever they are across NSW and upskill on the latest best practice when it comes to communication skills education. If you would be interested in that too, please mention that in the Comments/Questions box of your enquiry.
